Get In Touch

We provide priority scheduling for potential clients.   Many times someone will see you the same day you ask for help.

Getting legal advice is your responsibility.  You owe it to yourself and more importantly your children to take initiative.  Be brave.  Don’t wait because things will not get better on their own if something or someone doesn’t change.   Maybe that someone needs to be you.  Shouldn’t you at least understand your legal options?

When you contact us, we will take some very basic information.  If we can’t help you with your exact situation, we will put you in contact with a trusted professional in our network.  While the information on this site is free and we want to speak to you, we cannot provide free consultations.  If we did, too much time would be taken away from our committed clients, and we are very serious about helping our clients.  The cost of our consultation is reasonable and will provide you with priceless insight.  You will often meet with two attorneys because we take a collaborative approach, even in the very first meeting.

At R+A, we think you deserve to be happy, and we believe there is nothing wrong with arming yourself with information.  If you are faced with a crisis in your family- do something about it today by contacting Robertson + Associates.

How We Charge

We are essentially paid two ways.  Our standard method is through the billable hour.  Basically, the client is charged for the time expended on the case by all billing professionals at an hourly rate that will vary based upon experience and level of expertise.  Time is billed in 15 minute increments.  We will require a retainer, which is a deposit into our trust account that will be used to pay for the time and expenses on your case.  Think of it like a pre-paid calling card.  You will set up an account with R+A and your bill will be paid from that account.  When the retainer has a zero balance, you will be asked to pay the amount not covered by your deposit and replenish the retainer.  It is common for a portion of the initial retainer to be non-refundable, because when we agree to work with you, we are also agreeing to forego representing your opponent and possibly other people.  This is the most widely accepted billing method across the profession.  Find a copy of our Standard Employment Contract here.

A newer, simpler way we charge is through a flat fee.  Essentially, the client pays one fee for a defined amount of service for a defined amount of time.  If circumstances arise that were not initially anticipated or they were anticipated but not included in the fee, new services are defined and additional payment is required.  There are no retainers.  You pay one fee for a service and that’s it.  Sometimes these can be paid in installments.  Find a copy of our Fixed Fee Employment Contract here.

Employment Opportunities

At R+A, we are always looking to add talented people to our awesome little family.

We have been very blessed with a growing business, despite the economic hardships felt by many. If you are an attorney and you have an existing book of business, think you fit into the culture of R+A and we would mutually benefit from an association - get in touch with us. What do you have to lose? See what one of our team members had to say after leaving us to continue her education here.

We are always looking for opportunities to network and in some cases bring in folks with whom we can collaborate and share resources, and we can provide you with all the tools you need to be a success. While our compensation program is competitive for family law specialists in Mississippi, we believe that YOU, not “the firm” should be responsible for your success. At R+A, you will not be chained to a billable hour quota and you will be as successful as your talent and energy allows.

Our Offices

Our offices are now located in The Maple Place, which is a unique space in the Historic West Jackson Street Overly District in Olde Towne Ridgeland.  This beautiful, residential-style building was recently constructed by Craig Robertson and Mitch Evans of NorthView Development and is a Wier + Boerner  design which combines work space below with incredible condominium homes above.  The client is the focus of the R+A offices, decorated by Lounge Interiors to create a relaxing feel which showcases the firm's art collection.

The best thing about our office is the residential setting adjacent to the park and at the entrance of Ridgeland’s version of Belhaven. The lot has features such as a huge green space with a split-trunk, decades-old dogwood tree.

Does Mississippi Have Legal Separation?

Posted on Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Marriage is hard, there is no denying it and sometimes couples want to test the waters so-to-speak to see if they want to stay and work on their marriage or if they are ready to begin the divorce process. Couples who are not ready for divorce often opt for a trial separation, i.e. someone moves out of the house, gets an apartment, as if they are taking a so-called break from the marital home and possibly the marital relationship. Some states have laws that allow for couples to have a “legal separation”, however, Mississippi does not. Here the rule is simple: the law favors marriage. You are married until you are divorced or someone is dead. There is no such thing as legally separated in Mississippi, couples cannot go to a court and request that it put a hold on the marriage. This does not mean that you and your spouse cannot agree to a separation, it only means that any such agreement will not be judicially enforced.  READ MORE
